“Why do I create? Because I simply must.
My artwork isn’t about making statements on politics or current affairs; it’s about bringing something different into the world and forging a connection between my creations and you, the viewer”
Rococo Garden - Artist in Residence
“Sometimes it’s the less obvious things that catch my eye when it comes to a landscape, the hidden or often overlooked gems stand out and I’ll think ‘You know what, that’ll make a cute picture’.
Like in this piece I didn’t just see a bench, I saw many people pausing and enjoying the view. I saw partners saying to their SO ’I’ll wait for you here, love’ as they go to take a stroll around the garden. This became a moment to pause and a moment to enjoy either in solitude or with those closest to you, as long as they can all fit on the bench."
“I’ll Wait For You Here” - Soft Pastel on Pastel Paper
Artwork Size: 16” x 11”, framed and mounted.
“Sometimes a scene hides its story in color and quiet. In this piece the bench is almost secret, nestled behind a low riot of blue irises. So the flowers feel like the first thing you meet, and the bench becomes an invitation. I imagined someone pausing just long enough to take in the scent and the light, or two friends sharing a small, private conversation while the blooms sway between them. It’s a gentle moment of discovery: a quiet refuge revealed by petals and shadow, where the garden does the soft work of holding time.”
When The Irises Were Out - Oil Pastel on Board
Artwork Size: 16” x 11”, framed and mounted.
“We often picture autumn as rusts and brilliant oranges, but I found the trees on the cusp of change. The large tree behind the duck pond moved me most: its tall, sturdy trunk and lingering green leaves felt like a promise that it will stand through autumn and winter’s volatile weather. Its colours signal the slow arrival of full autumn. The rusty tones we love, yes, but also the gentle yellows and tenacious greens that deserve their own quiet praise.”
Turn Of The Season - Oil pastel on board
Art size: 32” x 12”, framed and mounted.
Hidden away under the big evergreen tree on the pond is the cutest duck house, no residents on my visiting day but you know that this is a secret hideaway for a duck or two. It’s another hidden part of the Rococo Garden that I wanted to represent, something and somewhere that’s easily overlooked but holds plenty of character in it’s own right.
